Baby loungers: Australian safe-sleep guidance
Safety update, 14 October 2026: The inherited lounger shopping recommendations and testimonials have been withdrawn because they contained unsafe sleep advice and a recalled-product recommendation. This is an editorial safety correction, not a claim of medical review or legal clearance.
Padded baby loungers and nests are not safe sleep spaces. For every sleep, use a suitable cot or bassinet with a firm, flat, level mattress. Do not put a lounger, nest or extra pillow inside it. If a baby falls asleep in a lounger, move them to a safe sleep space.
See the ACCC guide to safe baby sleep products and Red Nose guidance on nests and positioning pillows.
Recalled loungers and positioning claims
Safety recall: Boppy Original Newborn Loungers were recalled because babies can suffocate. Stop using a recalled lounger and follow the CPSC recall instructions for the specified Boppy newborn loungers.
Australian readers with a Boppy Hug & Nest should check the separate Australian Boppy Hug & Nest recall. Check the exact product named in each notice; these notices do not mean every Boppy product or nursing pillow is recalled.
Do not use a positioning pillow or inclined lounger to treat head shape or reflux. Ask your GP or child health nurse about these concerns. Babies with reflux should still sleep on their backs on a firm, flat mattress. See Red Nose guidance on reflux and sleep.
